
Gobekli Tepe: World’s Oldest Temple
The discovery of the world’s oldest temple, Gobekli Tepe, changed the view of archaeologists on the origins of civilization. Located at the mountain ridge within the Southeastern Anatolia Region of Turkey, the historical site predates England’s Stonehenge, Egyptian Pyramids and Malta temples by thousands of years. First excavated by a German archaeological team in 1995, excavator Klaus Schmidt think that the ancient structure had been an early sanctuaries of Neolithic Age.
