Star Wars: Canon Timeline

Since Lucasfilm was bought by Disney in 2012, the Star Wars Expanded Universe was drastically streamlined to introduced a new unified canon for the new age. In an effort to give the future films some flexibility, Episode VII producer Kathleen Kennedy announced that they would not follow the future story presented in the books. In doing so, the 30+ years of the Expanded Universe will be non-canonical and will be rebranded as Legends.
